The kids are not funny this week. They’re just squirrely. Deeply, profoundly ready for school. I’ve managed to get up before them in the mornings and have a latte while reading. It’s indecent how much I love that moment. I anticipate it even as I’m going to bed.
Anybody watch 30Rock? Last episode I watched, Girlie Show diva Tracy Jordan had bought a fancy espresso machine for the staff. NBC page and Southern flower Kenneth objected:
Kenneth: Mr. Jordan, I cannot work with that machine at my desk. I don’t drink coffee. I don’t drink hot liquids of any kind. That’s the devil’s temperature.
Tracy: Ken, this is New York. The Big Easy. Live a little.
Kenneth:Â I don’t want to do anything I’ll regret.
Tracy:Â Regrets are for horseshoes and handbags.
Kenneth tries the latte:Â Oh my….
Later that day, Tracy finds Kenneth drinking coffee directly out of the carafe.
Tracy: Hey, slow down there, Ken. Coffee is not like alcohol. It’s pretty addictive.
Kenneth: I love how it makes me feel. It’s like my heart is trying to hug my brain.
Oh yeah, me too, Ken.

I do watch 30 Rock from time to time (including last night), but I think it’s just about jumped the shark for me. The scene you talked about is funny, as are most of them which feature Kenneth, but I find too much that’s just plain raucous lately. Really clever writing is harder to find these days on 30 Rock, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Whose responsible for the latte art? It’s lovely.
Our beloved coffee pot died after serving us well for three years. Not bad. Now, after just purchasing my third coffee pot in three weeks in an attempt to find a good brew, I anxiously anticipate tomorrow’s cup. Better be good, or we may have to go to one of the fancy-shmancy espresso machines like some people I know 🙂
I look forward to my morning coffee and sometimes enjoy drinking them on the deck in a rare moment of peace. This summer I was spoiled for a week with lattes and americanas! Absolute heaven!!! It took me 2 weeks to adjust back to drinking (and enjoying) regular coffee! If you visit us next summer, you better plan on bringing your machine!
Your lattes are scrumpdelieshious!
We thought that episode was hilarious too.
Hilarious!
You do make the best latte´s.
I remember this episode — the devil’s temperature, indeed [/snort]. The few times I managed (in my at-home years) to wake up before the kids and have my tea, I was furious at them if they woke up and came downstairs before I finished. Like furious enough to have a talk with myself about not punishing the child for merely waking up. You’ve got only one week to go. You can do it!
I wake up early just to have my coffee.
