Johanna Reiss was a Dutch Jew hidden by Gentile farmers during the war. This book began as a way to record her experiences for her two daughters. It won a Newberry. Go girl. It would be a great book for discussing the Holocaust with your children. Ben keeps saying “Mom, please stop talking about the Holocaust,” so he might not be amenable right now. But I have hopes that I can harrass a teacher into teaching this book someday and then inviting Mrs. Reiss to speak to the class. Our kids need to know about this.
