After the Smoke Cleared

This is a follow-up to Mr. Kuper’s book Child of the Holocaust, his account of being left to survive alone at age 9 in Nazi Poland.  Strangely, I found this book — the story of his adult life in Canada and his reunion with his father who also survived — more harrowing than his first.  Did his father abandon him?  Does his father care about what happened to him?  How does he resolve his childhood experiences with the life he lives now?  It seemed emotionally excruciating to me, but maybe that’s because I can imagine emotional drama, but not starvation or being hunted like a dog.  Thank you Mr. Kuper for sharing your story.  I am really grateful.
