Apparently an adaptation of Jane Eyre. Guess I should read that, huh? I tore through this book. I felt like I did as a girl, reading The Little Princess or Little Women. The story just flew and I felt connected to the protagonist and wanted the best for her. Gemma is a Scottish girl who survives being orphaned and then abused — of course — by her terrible aunt after the death of her kind uncle (did I say it reminded me of Little Princess?) and it follows her journey to finding who she is.
