This is written by Caroline Knapp, the friend about whom Gail Caldwell wrote in Let’s Take The Long Way Home. Knapp is a Wonderful writer, so honest and thoughtful and measured. She had my attention the whole way through this very sad tale of her years as a young alcoholic. I was so grieved to know throughout that she had already died, that as she wrote this and struggled to find her way she had no idea that her life would end so soon. I so wanted to write to her as I read this book, to thank her for such an unflinching yet kind exploration of alcoholism. I really loved this book.
