Tallgrass

May’s Book Club book.  Small town in Colorado becomes home to Japanese internment camp during World War II.  Told from the point of view of a young girl in the town.  I liked her family (they were warm and loving and funny and her Dad, Loyal, was aptly named.  He reminded me of Atticus Finch) and I liked the historical perspective.  I would like to read a book from the point of view of the Japanese teenagers who ended up working the family’s beet farm.  The drama and mystery driving the narrative was a little boring for me. It didn’t feel like it directly addressed the conflict the main character expressed:  how to live in a town that is suddenly host to outsiders.
