Curtis Sittenfeld rocked my world with An American Wife. That was a treat to read. I didn’t like Prep nearly as much and Sisterland: A Novel falls into this category too. It’s handily written with lots of details and intimacies that make it an enjoyable read. But I found myself not caring about the characters as much as I wanted to — they kept repelling me! And at about 80% the main character does something that really annoyed me. I felt like a decision of that magnitude should have been made earlier in the book. Grrr. Was mad I’d even started it. Much less read 80% of it! I’ll keep looking for Sittenfeld’s work — I like her writing. But I’m 1 and 2 on it for now.
