Charming. Delightful. Couldn’t put it down. Seriously. I read parts of it out loud to the kids and my parents. Mr. Blanco is funny and thoughtful and vulnerable in this memoir of his childhood in Miami as the son of Cuban exiles. Ranging from purely hilarious (the trip with his abuela into the forbidden land of the all-americanos Winn-Dixe) to the touching (his tentative first-steps towards love and desire as a gay person in a culture unwilling to acknowledge him as such), this book is one of those books I can recommend 100%. BTW, Mr. Blanco is the poet laureate of the United States! Check him out: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/richard-blanco
