Maile Meloy wrote The Apothecary and The Apprentices, which I posted here recently. This one is adult nonfiction, the story of Yvette and Teddy Santerre, their children Margot, Clarissa, and Jaime. Meloy has a way of writing without fuss that I love. She tells you what the characters are doing and what they’re thinking but leaves the ponderous, throbbing depth of life underneath her words. She’s good!
