The Rest of Us Just Live Here

Mikey is a high school student in Washington state — not an “indie kid,” but just a normal kid, if you call normal being best friends with Jared, who is part-God and can heal people with his hands and is revered by all cats.  His sister Mel is recovering from anorexia, he’s in love with his friend Henna, and is fighting off another round of OCD.  I think Ness meant to write this as a commentary on the current trend in YA fiction:  monsters, gods, apocalypse, indie kids, romance.  It was very readable, but I wasn’t felled by it.
