Ann Tyler’s retelling of Taming of the Shrew at the behest of Hogarth Shakespeare, a series from a publishing house started by Virginia Woolf. Wasn’t great. Bummer. Seems like asking an author to do something like this is a great writer’s exercise, but it probably doesn’t ever access that deep place a writer finds their ideas because it has been instead given to them or asked of them. This book just seemed thin and without emotion the story deserves.
