Recommended to me by Aunt Sue. Entirely delightful. I was so sad to have it end. In 1907, 7th grader Paul Milliron is helping his father raise his two younger brothers after his mother’s recent death. He pens a reply for his father to a newspaper advertisement titled “Can’t Cook But Doesn’t Bite,” and so comes into his life Rose, their new housekeeper, and her brother Morrie, who ends up taking over the one-room schoolhouse in Maria Coulee, Montana. Just incredible plain and evocative, funny and tremulously tender. I loved this book.
