Perfect Little World

By Kevin Wilson, author of the Family Fang.

Izzy is newly single and pregnant when she signs on to participate in The Infinite Family project, a 10 year study in which 10 families raise their children communally without identifying individual parents.  Parts of this were interesting but I never felt like it whipped up into anything I cared about.  Izzy and Dr. Grind were very specific characters for me (as well as Mr. Tannehill, her barbecue instructor and father of choice) but the other parents in the Family were so amorphous.  The dialogue felt clunky to me too.  Strange.  At one point, a character writes a book about a woman who loses her parents in a car crash and uses the subsequent inheritance to hire actors to be her new family.  I found myself wanting to read THAT book instead.
