Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

A multi-generation, family saga about Koreans living in Japan, unwelcome as citizens, unable to return to their mother country.  I just loved the first 2/3 of this book.  Sunja, Hansu, Isak, Kunghee, Noa, Mozasu.  They seemed so real to me.  But as the book entered the last third and moved into the 1980s, it got strangely curt and harsh.  Characters like Hana and Solomon seemed so broken and lost and maybe it was because they were still young but their stories seemed thin.  Still, I’m glad to get to know Min Jin Lee’s writing.
