This is a novel, but so patterned after the life of Laura Bush, wife of GW, that I felt like a naughty voyeur. I really LOVE Sittenfeld’s writing style. She doesn’t mess around or show off, but gets to the point with just enough detail, wonderful dialogue, and such insight into characters interiors. I really was smitten. But the last fifth of the book, after Alice’s (Laura’s) husband becomes POTUS, takes a strange turn as Charles (GW) becomes a mere mention, a side character. This book made me want to meet Alice. Does that mean I’d like to meet Laura Bush?
