Lucy and I saw this movie today. True story of surfer Bethany Hamilton who loses an arm in a shark attack and goes on to professional surfing. Anna Sophia Robb plays Bethany — Lucy and I loved her a few years ago in Because of Winn-Dixie (see that movie too!) and The American Girl Samantha movie — and she owns it. Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid as her parents — wow, they’ve aged. And well. Watching them work is so easy — they make it look like nothing. Bethany Hamilton is a Christian and her faith is just a piece of the fabric of this movie. But even a mere piece of the story it is hocking when almost nothing else of popular culture — movies especially — reflects that. Love the family entirely lives for surfing. Fascinating. I really loved this movie and so did Lucy.
