Longbourn by Jo Baker. WOW!!!!!! Best book I read of the 7 over spring break. There are lots of books that are “spin offs” or “variations on” Pride and Prejudice and I’ve encountered lots of doubters who are ready to dismiss this book as just another in a line of fan fics that only the truly zealous P&Pers will read. Miss this one at your peril! Jo Baker obviously knows P+P through and through and has entirely absorbed not only the world but the themes and feelings. She has created a wonderful heroine that you will root for just as much as you ever did for Elizabeth Bennett — and not the exclusion of! She’s not out to make you feel badly about loving the upstairs! — and Sarah’s wants and desires are just as poignant as Jane’s and Elizabeth’s. I LOVED this book.
