Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story

Ok, this is a weird one.  I really do not like Bagge’s illustrations but the way he tells the story of Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story is too good to miss.  It’s just a visual choice — his cartoons look like the MAD cartoons of my youth (and in fact he was managing editor of R. Crumb’s Weirdo for few years in the 80s) and they’re not my preference.  But he does an amazing job of telling the varied, complicated life of American birth control activist Margaret Sanger, a story well-worth knowing if you are a woman of the 21st century, taking for granted your right to bear or not bear children.
