Boxers and Saints

Heard Gene Yang speak at the Calvin Writers’ Festival years ago after having loved American Born Chinese.  More amazing drawing, color, religious themes, cultural tensions, children becoming adults in the midst of all of it.  He really is gifted — not just a great artist but a profound storyteller.


Third book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer.  Great fun to read.  I just don’t like a book that ends with a cliffhanger.  JK Rowling knew how to do this — she could leave the main arc of the series unresolved from book to book but there was always satisfaction at the closing […]
