Code Name Verity

Read this right after reading All The Light We Cannot See.  So another look at WW2, this time through the eyes of two British women, one a pilot and the other a spy, with half of the book told by each character.  Adventure, intrigue, historical detail, and friendship.  I loved it.

German orphan Werner is a radio prodigy.  French Marie-Laure is blind and taken with the world of sea snails.  World War II takes over both their lives.  A friend of mine called the writing juvenile.  It won the Pulitzer.

Mr. Bridge

Mr. Bridge by Evan S. Connell, companion to Mrs. Bridge.  Such incredible realism and searing honesty.  Almost painful to read and SO worth it.  Can’t say enough about this pair of books.
